NAU Homecoming & Tequila Sunrise

College Kids at a Bar Drinking

Tequila Sunrise is an NAU tradition in which college students and residents alike join in a full day of drinking at bars prior to the school’s annual homecoming event.

The NAU Lumberjacks will be playing UC Davis on October 20, 2012 at 4:05 pm for homecoming. According to NAU’s website, homecoming has been a tradition since 1924 when NAU was known as the “Northern Arizona Normal School”. Homecoming includes traditional activities such as alumni gatherings, the annual bonfire, pep rally, Homecoming Dedicatee banquet, Homecoming Day Parade and the football game. NAU Tequila Sunrise Homecoming Tradition

Another unofficial NAU Homecoming Tradition is Tequila Sunrise the annual prelude to Homecoming. Tequila Sunrise is an event where students, alumni and residents patronize downtown bars until the Homecoming Parade starts. The downtown bars usually start serving patrons at 6 a.m. Saturday morning. For many alumni, Tequila Sunrise is a social event allowing alumni’s to reconnect with friends before the parade and game. According to the Lumberjack, Tequila Sunrise started in the late 70’s in The Latin Quarter and served patrons on the sidewalk with a chain link fence separating them from the parade.

During Tequila Sunrise, Homecoming Parade and the Homecoming Football game the Law Office of Gonzales and Poirier hopes everyone has a fun and safe time. We would like to remind students, alumni and residents that the City of Flagstaff has promised to “crack-down” on loud parties and underage consumption. Recently, it has been our experience that the Flagstaff Police Department is not issuing warnings for violations. Instead, the Flagstaff Police Department has been arresting students for minor consumption, disorderly conduct and noise violations.

If you have been arrested by the police and charged with a crime contact the Law Office of Gonzales and Poirier at 928-774-5400 and ask to speak with Tony Gonzales, Matt Poirier or Daniel Tom. We offer a free 30 minute consultation, easy payment plans and discount rates for all NAU students. If you are a student a criminal offense and/or criminal history could have a negative impact with NAU and your future career.
